Coins for NATURA 2000Another original eco-activists action was organized on 26th July in Sofia! We collected 7 kg of coins and gave them to the Bulgarian government – our symbolic help to pay the fine of the European Commission for NATURA 2000. The cabinet still have not proposed a full list of the Bulgarian territories included in the NATURA 2000 network. Bulgarian government sent to the EC the official list of zones, which have to be included in NATURA 2000. They are 180 habitats, which cover only 13% of the territory of Bulgaria. Originally the National Biodiversity Council proposed 225 potential zones to be included in the ecological network, which cover 28.6% of the country's territory. Now, we're waiting a team of experienced Bulgarian scientists to be selected and to precise the final list of the protected habitats URGENTLY -- until the end of September 2007!
