Kess van Dongen was born January 26th, 1877 in Delfshaven, a town on the outskirts of city, Netherlands. At the age of sixteen, he attended the honorary society of Fine Arts in city, where on his spare time he would visit the Red light-weight District on the city district and draw photos of the prostitutes and sailors. In Dec 1899, he rapt to Paris to be with Augusta Preitinger, whom he had met at the Academy in city. They married on July eleven, 1901 so unmarried twenty years later in 1921.
