Yikes, this is the best I can do with this lens, I'd better learn the macro lens real fast!

Very nice - one suggestion, turn the in-camera sharpening OFF.

You can always sharpen later if you want to ...

You have a Macro Lens? I'm jealous.

Thanks for visit! Appreciate your feed-back. I can't find anything resembling a setting for in-camera sharpening, maybe it will come to me later.
Yes, a Tamron SP 90 f/2.8 Di Pentax (couldn't afford a Pentax macro after the camera and lenses and all the bits and pieces)
Other two are the above Pentax 18-55 (kit) and Pentax 55-300.
A guru said I must learn the 18-55 first before jumping in with macro lens etc.. may be a long time until I get more than one good photo out of 456,784 shots.

Picture EXIF says 'Sharpness = hard (2)' which is okay for ultra-realism.

Don't wait too long before trying out your Tamron, primes are a lot harder than zooms (personal experience).

Reviews for the Tamron look pretty good, I backed away from buying a Macro lens due mainly to the difficulty of good Macro technique (too much like real work) but also due to expense.

The magic number is supposed to 10,000 (Cartier-Bresson?) but I think it's like golf, fairly continual failure occasionally illuminated by one incandescent shot.

Aha, the penny drops - I think the sharpness was done in Photoshop, so must stop that instinct to sparkle everything as this camera doesn't seem to need as much tweaking as the old camera.
Or, where it says Highlight Correction - it was On, now turned Off, so will see how that goes.

So many techniques go out of style eventually and maybe the bokeh I want to achieve with the macro lens will fade too by the time it is mastered. So maybe you are right to not bother with macro.
But there are so many interesting insects' knees and flower stamens out there.. :-)

Well done! I think the ultra-realism of the petals works well against the soft background, particularly on the right side.
