I was going for a transition effect between an old drawing and a picture, but the result isn't that satisfying.

Great idea!

Perhaps it will work with a broader zone of transition?

Hmm, I think I'll try that.

Thanks!

That's indeed a wonderful idea. It has also a bit of Escher feeling about it: never ending stairs.

What is the story behind it? How did you find this drawing and its building?

Other ideas depending on what you are after: colour matching or a cartoon aspect to the photo but only at the transition zone (edge detect?)

Well, regretfully , I don't have the drawing - it's all done using edge detection.
I want to make the drawing part look more like a pencil sketch on an old, stained piece of paper. So when I get my graphics tablet, I'll work on that.
As for the transition zone itself I'm not really sure - I've tried a few different versions, but nothing says "That's it!" :-/

Well, you got me there. I really thought it was an existing drawing. So you have already done a great job in creating the drawing!

But still, what building is it? I love all those stairs.

Thank you, I also really like those stairs :-)

This is inside the main building of Warsaw University of Technology. It was built at the end of the XIX th century.

Inside it looks like this:

That is the most impressive university I have ever seen. It's a monument. Thanks for the link.

I have to say that I also thought the upper half was an existing drawing. I think your on to something!

I love this effect!!! Very cool idea and well executed. I don't know why you're not satisfied. Perhaps if you went for a vertical transition down the column on the left side of the arch? Just a thought.

I really think this is amazing.
