Pesto, made for my lunch today in a pestle and mortar, from basil grown on my kitchen windowsill. And very nice it was, too...!

Did you used it with pasta? Or maybe a sliced tomato salad?

Boring?? Not at all!! :D Sounds yuuummmyyyy know, if you ever get bored of pasta, try fresh made (if you do it your self even better ;D ) pasta... I looooove pesto with fresh made sepia tagliatelle! ;D

Sound like a good idea! Actually, when I said "boring", I suppose I really meant "unimaginative"! When you say "sepia" tagliatelle, do you mean wholemeal?

Colored whith the "ink" from a sepia - cuttlefish. But I´m not sure 8)

basil is such a great herb, I just bought a bunch to make snapper with basil vinaigrette - the smell is almost intoxicating. Homemade pesto rocks!

Yes, home-made pesto blows the bought stuff out of the water! And making it in a mortar and pestle rather than a food processor adds to the pleasure. Like grinding your coffee beans in a manual coffee-grinder, there's something about using a slow and deliberate method that makes the whizz-bang of electric kitchen equipment seem almost alienating!

well I have to admit when it comes to coffee I prefer the whizz-bang and precision of a good burr grinder. But I love mortar and pestle for spice pastes...

Oh, I agree about the burr grinder - it's just that I prefer my manual, hand-cranked one to one with a motor!
