Situated just across the Wye River in Tintern, Wales. It was probably among the Papist abbeys ordered destroyed by Henry VIII after some Catholic orders refused to recognize the separation of England from the Catholic Church. Its name survives in Wordsworth's familiar poem, "Lines Written a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey," an area which triggered memories of his own youth and the charms of nature.
