Something drew me off the road to visit this thing, but now I can't remember what it was. Any Teuton knowing what this thing is should tell me. It reminds me of Dame Rebecca West's comment about the Nuremberg Courts Building during the trials: "a tribute to the German tendency to overbuild." Perhaps a guessing game: (Choose one): (1) a monument to Bismarck; (2) a monument to the German military or to the glorious German dead of (choose one) The Seven Years War, The Napoleonic Wars, The Franco-Prussian War, World War I, World War II; (3) None of the above; it is in fact _____________.

I seem to recall that it was dedicated in some fashion to the memory of The Iron Chancellor. I encountered it about midways between Frankfurt and Berlin.

A Third Reich era "rest stop"? I recall using its facilities, which may be why I visited it in the first place.

Designed by Albert Speer?

Note that the nude figure atop, if not athwart, this edifice (Arminius?) faces east. Interesting. Drang nach Osten?
