Friedrichshafen Townhall Square / Rathausplatz Friedrichshafen
Once upon a time, during christmas market this was packed with booths and people, but since some wise guys decided to put the maket to a drafty road not sheltered from the lake. Now all there is are some decorations in the fountain. |

There is such a thing as good modern architecture but I know our townhall not really a great example. The Architect, a Wilhelm Tiedje, was a protegee of Fritz Todt that is mostly known for leading Reichsautobahn 26 through difficult hilly terrain of the swabian alb together with Paul Bonatz.
I like the Rathauscafe in the groundfloor of the right wing most about it. It does not look like anything to write home about at the outside and you got no lakeview anywhere in spite of the proximity to the harbour. Therefore it is less crowded with tourists and got servers that are not very stressed even in high season. But at the inside it is comfy and clean, their spiced chai is really great, and if you order some lunch, you get it fast, usually with a smile and no mix ups.
As for the clockface, I tend to prefer such that show it all, no matter if classik and round with 12 well readable roman or arab numbers and minute dots inbetween or modern digital interfaces. Just a personal thing, but I fear what I like least about the Moderne are minimalistic arty clocks that are all just design but no propper information. :o)
