The Paris based Golden Tulip Hospitality Group has made its entry into the Thai market by opening Golden Tulip Hotels in Bangkok and Phuket, with plans to open more hotels in key tourist destinations.

The group, which aims to become a key player in Thailand, rebranded the 24storey former Radisson Hotel, located on Rama Nine Road, as a Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel.

It is the first presence in Bangkok for the group as part of its worldwide expansion, particularly in emerging markets like China, India and Southeast Asia.

Group chief executive officer Olivier Derycke said the property in Bangkok would showcase the group's international standards and local flavour, featuring 448 guest rooms and suites with four star amenities.

"The Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel is our new portfolio in Bangkok, where we have also established a new regional office for Southeast Asia. Strategically it will grow to become a major player here in Thailand," he said.

The hotel, with an average room rate of Bt 1,850 per night, hopes to achieve average occupancy of 7580 per cent this year.

Key markets will be Europe, the Middle East and the Americas where the group has opened many hotels. The local market will also be the key to drive its meeting and conference facilities.

He added the group began operating the first Golden Tulip Mangosteen in Phuket late last year.

Another Golden Tulip Madison Suites on Sukhumvit in Bangkok is scheduled to open soon. Moreover, it will expand into other major cities throughout the countries.

"We look forward to becoming a key player in Thailand's market, with a mix of international standards and local flavour," he said.

The Golden Tulip brand is part of Louvre Hotels & Golden Tulip, which is the second largest hotel group in Europe, is ranked the eighth largest global player with more than 1 000 hotels in 42 countries.

Louvre Hotels is an affiliate of Groupe du Louvre, owned by the Starwood Capital Group private equity firm.

Golden Tulip is operating seven clearly differentiated hotel brands, ranging from one to 5 stars such Tulip Inn and Royal Tulip.
