Hey Eric, it's actually very simple. The camera was used in manual mode and set to something like 3 seconds.
The two flashes that fired into a shout through umbrella were connected to - hm - difficult to explain, some sort of DIY "kinda mousetrap".
Basically I clicked the shutter, then a second person shot the BB gun, the bullet went through the strawberry and hit a metal plate. When the metal plate is hit, it will trigger the flashes, and the picture is done. The room was fairly dark, and the aperture fairly small, this way no ambient light was picked up by the sensor.

It's difficult to explain, I make sure to take a setup shot when we do it again...
