Somehow this remainds me of Maillards Salginatobel Bridge put into a tamed and civilized environment, but it must be huge, making Salgina a tiny model, considering those big houses at the foot...

Hi Sonja. Some additional information about the bridge. At the time of its opening, it held (for a short time) the title of the largest reinforced concrete arch in the world.

"The total length of the deck is 493.2 metres (...) with a width of 26.5 metres (...) The arch has a rise of 52 metres (...), and the maximum clearance above river level is 70 metres (...) above the Douro."

Interesting article. So it is 33 years younger and really build to very similar looking proportions but huge. Your Edgar Cardoso actually proved our Fritz Leonhardt wrong, the guy who said "These Maillart-type arch bridges only look good in special situations as here over a gorge and against a mountainous background". He showed perfectly they are looking right great in a city and in very large. It seems however he built in a rather different technique, not just lots of falsework and then pouring in concrete sans a skeleton. Would be at that size also a bit disquitening :)
