And just to think, they considered to use that spiney tip up there as mooring for our flying cigars of the count....

Early photomontages there are enough of that, but no pics that are real. As far as I know they tried once successfully to moor with a smaler privately owned dirigible and deliver some newspapers this way for a publicity stunt in 1931, but after this rather difficult maneuvre the consensus was that they could not ever risk passengers lives deboarding there even in a breeze hardly noticable down in the streets, and that was the end for the airship station. Now the tip is an antenna, and the great big hotel airships -- well, we know what became of them. :o(
But it is still a phantastic looking art deco building even if no zeppelins attach themselves.

The "spiney tip" is an antenna tower. The airship anchorage was before that was installed and was at the base of it. There was a rounded dome top to the building then and they did indeed moor an airship there at one time. If you go on a tour of the building I think the hatch is still visible in the public areas. I've been up there, on that tower a few times. It's fun!
