The first Version of the Westturm was built in 1602. Since the island was moving, the tower started to stand in the water several years later. To prevent attacks in the first world war, it was blown up in 1914. Since it was pretty important for the inhabitants of Wangerooge, it was rebuilt in 1932 on a slightly different ground. Nowadays it is used as a youth hostel and it is a good place to spend your nights.
