Natural backlight. I chose the best angle to separate from other visual elements, reduced exposure to lose most of the background and keep detail in the strongly sunlit subject. I now increased the contrast to get rid of the background. Didn't require much tweaking.

Is that old man's beard? Seems greener than I've seen it before.

It is indeed "old man's beard" at the end of a thin branch.
If one looks closely at old man's beard, it is very green. The selective backlight made this stand out. :)
