I really like the grain and the very shallow depth of field here. Moreover there seems to be some fuzziness (maybe due to the grain) all over the picture that works very well here. How did you achieve that?

Thanks for the comments. I'm glad to hear the high grain works, I was a bit worried that it was too much. It was taken at ISO 2000 at f/1.8. I boosted up the contrast a bit using curves which really accentuated the noise. So, I tried to reduce the grain a bit over much of the face with GREYCstoration and a small amount of gaussian blur under soft light. However, when I did this I masked out the one eye, so that that remained in sharp focus. Still not quite sure about what I am doing in Gimp - but after numerous tries, I liked this the best.
I like it a lot because of that single tear which was made better by the cookie he is eating.
