Thanks, Fizgig. Banjo and I waded through mud, climbed rocks, skirted hordes of alfa dogs, and danced across quicksand to get close enough to this to get it with a 300mm lens. Worth all of it, but I'm looking at the Nikon 200-500mm!

Awww, cute wee Brand's Cormorants with a Western Gull? It is kind of strange and exotic to see gulls not totally dwarfed by a cormorant for people from my neck of the woods....

I've seen this segregation many times and shown it in a few photos how the gulls really want to be part of the gang, but there is just something they can't overcome.

What I meant is that our Cormorants are really huge compared to all regulary occuring gulls. On inland Lakes in Europe the Greater Cormorant is the only species and the smal and weakbilled Black-headed Gulls really have a very good cause for some respect. Your cormorants are so tiny and your most common gull species rather large, there is almost no difference.

You're right, Sonja. These Cormorants are very small compared to those we see at the surf spots farther up the coast. Some of those are almost the size of a wild turkey. I was somewhat astounded too. I wonder if they were all teenagers??
