A Reminder of What It's Like

The desolate helplessness of being homeless is one of the saddest things we see. My recent mention of yin and yang has reminded me how important it is to own the fact that we are all one family. There but for fortune, go you and I. Compassion is born of this realization. When you love yourself, you love everybody. That's why the most important thing about us is how we treat others.

"... Rich as a sultan,
Poor as a mite,
We’re all worth the same
When we turn off the light....."

Scenes like this exist in condemnation of a society that values material and other useless unimportant things above the human condition. They should remind us that life is unpredictable.... And what one thinks when looking at such an unfortunate soul might be the same thing another would think should fortune change in one's own life tomorrow. People forget that one doesn't need to be rich or Harvard educated to make a difference in such a life.... Kindness, compassion, humanity are priceless. Yet, how many of us are guilty of simply looking away because we can't bear to look upon such misery..... Selfish even in that..... It makes those more fortunate feel bad to look upon such a scene.... How about putting that aside & accepting that this is a human being and remembering that life doesn't play favorites....

Thanks for saying this, Fizgig. It's what we need to hear more often.
