You may be referring to the bark? (It's worse than the bite.) Usually it is removed because it eventually falls off, but I carefully removed it and then epoxyed it back in place to preserve the original look. I love Redwood burl! My house is all Redwood. Even the floors.

I actually mean patterns of the year rings and all that. It looks a bit like petrified wood the way you preserved it all.

We have a few redwoods here around, most from the times when it was the newest fashion amongst nobility to give seedlings of new world trees to each other and to cities for their park when ever visiting somewhere. But compared to those giants at Pfeiffer Big Sur they are still just little trees of course.

Thanks Fizgig. It was a labor of love. I had to make the flatbed thickness planer used to make it a uniform thickness.

Thanks for your comments, Sonja. Big Sir is just down the road south of here. The biggest ones, though are in Sequoia National Park, north of here....the biggest ones left, however. Loggers in the early 1900's cut all the really biggest ones down for lumber. Although there are a few still standing that are over three hundred feet (500 meters?), their location is a carefully guarded secret among arborists and the cult-like serious Redwood scientists.
